Charlie Hill
Head Coach – BJJ Black Belt
Coach Charlie started his Jiu-Jitsu journey on his 18th birthday in February 2008 and was immediately hooked. He joined an MMA team in Redding, CA, and focused on fighting even during his time in the U.S. Navy, where he continued training in both Connecticut and Japan. After returning from his tour, Charlie met his first Jiu-Jitsu black belt and, with unwavering dedication, drove an hour up a mountain every day to train. In 2015, he moved to Las Vegas with the dream of training alongside the best athletes in the world.
That dream came true when Charlie ran into Evan Dunham, a 25-time UFC veteran. The two quickly hit it off, and Charlie joined Evan’s gym the following week. After six months of training, Charlie submitted a blue belt world champion at a local NAGA tournament, and Evan awarded him his blue belt the next day. Dunham Jiu-Jitsu was one of the biggest academies in the city, home to some of the highest-ranked athletes in the sport. After Charlie’s promotion, Evan encouraged him to join the competition team, which was led by Masters World Champion Rene Lopez and World Champion Mikey Musumeci.
In 2019, Charlie earned his purple belt, but in 2020, Dunham Jiu-Jitsu sadly closed due to the pandemic, and the team dispersed among five different gyms across the city. Charlie continued training with the Musumeci team until he earned his brown belt in late 2022. After years of focusing on technical guard play, Charlie decided it was time to develop his own style, emphasizing wrestling and top pressure, which led to the creation of Kingdom Jiu-Jitsu. He trained with various notable athletes, including Combat Jiu-Jitsu Champion Gabe Checco, Michael Alvarez’s Cobrinha Jiu-Jitsu, Xtreme Couture coach Bryce Harley, and the Shapiro Brothers, the head Jiu-Jitsu coaches of Syndicate MMA.
Throughout his time in Las Vegas, Charlie trained with many world-class champions, including Roberto Jimenez, Renato Canuto, Gordon Ryan, Dan Ige, and Fredson Paixao, among others. He also helped coach UFC fighter Roxanne Modafferi, cornering her in both the Brown Belt Masters World Championship and the Black Belt National Championship, where she went undefeated with Charlie in her corner. Charlie was ready to receive his black belt from his close friend and former teammate Scott Macey but was unsure about his affiliation. That’s when he reconnected with UFC featherweight and 4-time BJJ World Champion Fredson Paixao, who recruited Charlie to his association and made him head coach at one of his academies. On January 20th, 2024, just three weeks shy of his 16th anniversary in Jiu-Jitsu, Fredson awarded Charlie his black belt. In May 2024, Charlie and his wife Eden moved to Oklahoma, where they opened Kingdom Jiu-Jitsu Academy in Yukon, which Charlie now runs full-time.
