At Kingdom Jiu-Jitsu Academy, we believe that a respectful and supportive environment is essential for everyone’s growth and enjoyment.
This etiquette guide is designed to help all students—beginners and seasoned practitioners alike—understand the expectations and norms within our academy.
Following these guidelines ensures a positive training atmosphere where everyone can learn, improve, and build lasting friendships on and off the mat.

Academy Etiquette
- Wear a Clean Uniform: Always come to class in a clean uniform to maintain hygiene.
- Be Quiet and Respectful: When classes are in session, speak softly and be mindful of others.
- Take Care of Yourself and Others: Look after your well-being and be considerate of your training partners.
- No Shoes, Food, or Electronics in the Training Area: Do not bring shoes, food, or electronic devices onto the mats.
- Wear Sandals Off the Mat: Outside shoes are not allowed; wear sandals when you’re not on the mat (no bare feet off the mat).
Training Protocol & Guidelines
- Remove Accessories Before Training: Remove all jewelry, piercings, necklaces, and similar items before training.
- Trim and Clean Nails: Keep your fingernails and toenails clean and neatly trimmed before class.
- Clean Up After Yourself: Always clean up after yourself (tape, water bottles, equipment, etc.).
- Wear Footwear in the Bathroom: Always wear footwear when using the bathroom.
Student Standards
- Help New Students: Share what you know with newcomers. Please pay it forward!
- Leave Ego at the Door: Check your attitude and ego. This is not the place for negative energy.
- Be Humble in Training: Don’t brag about submitting—or not being submitted by—an opponent during training.
- Focus on Improvement: Work on your weaknesses in class. Remember, this is training, not competition.
Training Protocol & Guidelines
- Show Respect Before and After Sparring: Always shake hands with your partner before and after live sparring and practice.
- Be Mindful of Your Partner: Consider your training partner’s skill level, weight, and age. Adjust your intensity accordingly to ensure a safe and productive session.
- Secure Long Hair: Tie up long hair to prevent causing discomfort or distraction to your partner during training.
- Recognize Verbal Taps: Yelling, grunting, or wincing is considered a verbal tap. If this occurs, stop immediately and restart the match.
- Prohibited Actions: Do not engage in slamming, scratching, or striking.
- Avoid Dangerous Techniques: No spine or neck cranks are allowed during training.
- Protect Fingers: Do not grab individual fingers or bend fingers backward to prevent injury.
